The level of an item upgrading can help players evaluate the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. Item Stats

The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can also affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obstructed by them.
