Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
