20 Things You Must Be Educated About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item upgrading level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.
Recycle Points
The Item level Upgrade [chessdatabase.science] upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.
The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are useful items that are used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs vary depending on the item upgrade slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.
Item upgraders can be found in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even in the event that they are part of a different gear set.
The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.
The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade items their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
Another significant modification is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
