WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade items their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item upgrade level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will show an item level upgrade's preview at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item level upgrade slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if those items are from a different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them wisely. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
